Haka ‘Ka Mate’ Performed by Ngāti Toa

The great chief Te Rauparaha created the haka (chant) Ka Mate in about 1810. The haka is now widely performed and recognised around New Zealand. It has become an integral part of New Zealand culture and is performed by the All Blacks before test matches.

To open the exhibition Whiti Te Rā! The story of Ngāti Toa Rangatira, members of the tribe perform their haka (chant) Ka Mate.

Filmed in 2014 for the exhibition Whiti Te Rā! The story of Ngāti Toa Rangatira.
