Sunfish: Preserving an Ocean Giant

When a sunfish, the world’s heaviest bony fish, washed up on a beach Dr Tom Trnski from Auckland Museum rushed down to pick up the rare specimen.

Looking at its size – 2.1 metres long and about the same from dorsal fin tip to anal fin tip, and weighing 243 kilograms – Tom knew he’d need a fish facility with large tanks. Step up, Te Papa.
