Kingdom of the Birds: An Expedition to Solander Island

The windswept Solander Island in Foveaux Strait, southern New Zealand, stands as a reminder of a time when New Zealand truly was the kingdom of the birds.

A Te Papa team visited the island to study Buller’s albatrosses, attaching devices to record the birds’ flight details and proximity to boats.
